Trebuchet contest Rules

Trebuchet Contest;

All trebuchet/catapults will be required to pass a technical/safety inspection prior to competition and awarding of any participation points.

Your trebuchet/catapult, with the exception of the arm, cannot exceed 6’x6’x6’.  The arm dimensions are directly related to a mathematical formula so it cannot be limited to 6’.

For safety reasons there must be a remote firing mechanism.  The firing mechanism must allow the person firing it to be at least 10’ away from your trebuchet when it is fired.  Failure to have a proper firing mechanism will result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of all points for this event.

If counterweights are used they must be fixed to the arm or the body of your trebuchet/catapult in a manner that will keep them from coming loose upon firing.  Failure to secure the counterweights will result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of all points for this event.

The object of the competition is to launch a basketball as far as you can.  Total distance will be determined at the place the ball comes to a stop.

Each crew will have three attempts and the furthest firing will be the official distance.

No Slingshots Allowed in this Competition

  • Chariot must be able to support two crew members.
  • Chariot must be equipped with some type  brake mechanism.
  • Wheels must be in a fixed position.
